generator for the house

As the title says generator for the house, im thinking of getting one, had our 2nd blackout probably less than 3 months between, lights are no big deal, but it would be nice to keep tht fridge running.

I don't really want to cough up for a 5 kw genny(although I'd like one), I'm just wondering if any one has one on the economy side, around 2 or 2.5 kw I had a quick look in bunnings tonight , the range starts at about 200 bucks for a homelight around 1100 watts capacity iirc, I think that might be a bit under powered, its probably not the constant output anyway.
So can anyone recomend a budget genny that might do the job? Im thinking 5 or 600 bucks max.

I bought the AEG 2400w generator from Bunnings $499 last week.

It has proven to be a great performer.

I bought a diesel 8KW 3 phase off ebay for $1000 ..
Been running off and on for over a year..
Very economical on fuel.. Remote start etc,,
Originally bought for motorhome but didn't realize how big and heavy it is !!!

I forgot to mention, the AEG is light...starts with half a pull when you use the choke properly, is 4 stroke too...LOL


and...it comes with a free wheel kit to pull it around.

i looked up 8kw diesel genny , one brand said about 100 kgs...... yes that is pretty weighty, but probably appropriate for the size,
8kw for 1000 bucks looks like good kw's per dollar that's for sure, run the whole house almost .

Are you on town gas supply at your house? You could get one of the ones that run on natural gas.

We have a 2.4KVA Yammy genset, expensive but it is luggable so as it can be used for camping (reasonably quiet too). It has been used a fair bit with Brisbane floods and power outages over the past 3 years. Just remember to always have full fuel cans ready for those times.

My young brother also suggested a ups, sort of scratching my head about them really, we have a few of them running computers and a laser printer already, he actually offered me a big company server ups with a rack and a second external one that plugs into that with another 20 batteries in it, but the batteries are down and it would need a bunch of new batteries ,
it probably wouldn't cost a lot more than a generator, but also we are a tad pushed for space in house, plus it would be more cooling fans running all day every day .
so Thanks Wodahs , good idea mate, but i'm liking the generator at the moment, at least when we are done with it , there will be a bit of space in the back shed for it.

I looked it up , it looks like a good unit and quiet too.... 59 db, very nice, a bit out of my price range unfortunately , but thanks all the same..
