Default Fuel Pressure Regulator Install.. Where??

ok, ive got the fuel pressure regulator ready to go on, but i dont know wheres the best place to throw it on..

From what i can gather, the stock regulator has the fuel input, and is joined to the fuel rail... now my regulator has two inputs...

If i simply add it before the stock regulator, will it raise the pressure??? or will the stocky just hold it back?

If i cant do that, how the hell do i ad it?

You put it in the return fuel line so it goes tank, fuel rail/injectors, stock reg and then aftermarket reg.

aahh ok... so then do i remove the vacuum from the stocker and throw that on the rising rate, or do i have one on both?

Fuel Injected EF mate...

The stock regulator is at the back of motor...

I was just stumped as i though I needed to add it after the stock regulator, but before the injectors.

When i looked at it, i scratched my head a little...

I will go install it in the return line now, and hopefully come back with someone telling me whether i need to have vac on both stock and rising rate reg, or just the rising rate..

Depends on the regulator, but assuming you are using it to set the base fuel pressure higher than stock (and basically fully overriding the stock reg), then you only really need the vacuum source connected to the new reg.

well its for a turbo with stock injectors... So i will be boosting the pressure as far as it can go i think(running way to lean)

You can probably go to a safe max base pressure of 60psi. That will give you a bit more fuel but you will still wont want to run much more than 6psi IMO until you get some decent injectors.

yeh only running 5-6 atm, so it should be ok...

Also, where abouts on the return line do you install?? as the connector off the fuel rail isnt the same as the ones on the regulator???

Do i just jack her up and connect to where the rubber hosing meets the metal piping??

The regulator should come with 12mm push on fuel hose fittings. Normally you just cut the a rubber section of the hose. If I remember correctly on the 6cyl engines the rubber hose connects straight up to the fuel rail so it should be pretty straight forward, just make sure you get the return line.

from memory, anything between 9-12psi is good

You can only really set it with a wideband or dyno. Depending on the rising rate of the reg, you may find that you leave base pressure at pretty much stock levels and just allow the rising rate reg to do its job under boost.

Stock pressure is 36-38psi, so I would imagine you would be lookign at around 40-50psi but as I said that purely depends on the rate of the reg.

yeah 9-12psi would be for old skool carby cars like worked 308's. Just be very careful when you boost up the pressure on an EF fuel rail. Those factory regs are weak as pi$$ compared to EA-ED regs, and you'll find that if you crank it up around 50-60psi then the reg will start leaking fuel out the sides. A much better option which is also cheap would be to use a microfueller to add extra fuel and keep the factory fuel pressure. Less stress on the injectors, reg and the fuel pump.

well yeh its looking that way...

Running like an absolute slug since i threw it on.. (dunno, prob leaking fuel when driving, cant tell at idle)

so around 50-60 psi?? the gauge said 80 when i first had it on, so i wound it down a bit..

It came of a VN 5L and he was getting about 50psi,but when mine said 80, i was a bit worried.. ???

All these fiddly things are getting to me......

Setting it above 50psi will make it run pretty rich off boost giving you poor fuel economy and if too rich increase engine wear and problems such as plug fouling etc. But if it is only a 1:1 rising rate reg that may be you only option to get decent and safe AFR's under boost (you really want a higher ratio rising rate reg so you can keep base fuel pressure down at around stock levels while still providing more pressure only under boost). But as said you need to set the pressure on the dyno, and then normally check and reset it after a few hundred kms to factor out the EEC's learning strategies.

its a rising rate.. 12:1 or 2:1 one of the two...

yeh well its running like a slug but still too lean... and thats with the pressure up...

anyway.. i think its just in the garage until i start on wolf... i wish someone would buy my old mags from me so i could buy it now...

@rollin, yep im an aspley boy... well, between there and redcliffe(two of the hooniest places in australia) Whens the cruise?? doesnt look like the bloody thing will be on song for a while. (too much for the stocker fuel/ecu).. But definately in the future mate. Sick of taging along with these combodoores.. there bloody everywhere.
