Default More ABS Questions

Good morning all,

The ABS modules in an AU are from what I can gather, are divided into 2 types;

- One for base models (forte, futura, non-ghia faimonts)

- One for upper spec models (Fairlane, Ghia & XR)

Is this correct? Also, I understand theyre not interchangeable, but one thing I need to confirm is that can one be ripped out of say, a Fairlane & put in an XR? Is there any serial number issues/conflicts? Or anything at all that would prevent a changeout from another AU? Cheers for everyones thoughts.

I would have thought that you would be better going by series rather than model as ABS was not std. on some base models. Give FTG wreckers a call they would know either way

Here is a bit more info I got from RussW
Re: ABS

In the early series (the ones starting ER there is a different 4 channel model with traction control only for the Fairlane/Ghia and LTD.

In the later series (starting AU2) there is the same but the Fairmont gets it as well.

AU2 2C346 A ABS MODULE, FORTE/FUTURA/"S"/XR, LESS ANTI-SPIN TRACTION SYSTEM

AU2 2C353 A ABS MODULE, FAIRMONT/FAIRLANE/GHIA/LTD, WITH TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM

ER 2C346 A ABS MODULE, LESS TRACTION CONTROL - 3 CHANNEL, (-) FAIRLANE/LTD/GHIA

ER 2C353 A ABS MODULE, WITH TRACTION CONTROL - 4 CHANNEL, FAIRLANE/GHIA/LTD

Cheers
Russ

there are traction control and non traction control ABS units in the AU they are not interchangable as the traction one has 4 output pipes ( one per wheel) where the non traction only has 3 output pipes ( the rear brakes share one pipe) the wiring is different too

its now working, but still failing in the exact way the original one does. So it might be sensors?

The Sensors do wear out rather regularly. Fronts more than rears, from Ford you are looking at $100.00 for the L/H and $103.00 for the R/H.

Id be putting the old ABS module/actuators back in and hooking it up to a scan tool and see what it says.

Hi Guy's
I have a an AU3 sedan 2002 SR model. My Abs light came on the dash but has gone off again ?

I cleaned all the wheel sensors they had heaps of crap on them. The dash lights been off for a month and has come back on. I took the car to Midas and they hooked up a fault finder meter and said that my right front sensor was showing a fault? BUT I did have that replaced 3 years ago and the guy might not have cleared the codes the guy at Midas said.

Midas has cleared my code and said see what happens? Well the light came back on tonight. If you turn the car off and re start it the light goes out ?

Any ideas people? Your help would be much appreciated..

Cheers

Can someone please post up a picture of where the sensors are on the front and rear? I am having a similar issue with the light intermitently going on and off and would like to clean the sensors to see if it helps.

thanks.

Excellent, thanks for that. Now to get the motivation to drag myself under the car again to clean them. The older I get the less comfortable laying under a car gets.

Hi Casper

My ABS light came back on again! I decided to clean the actual cog that the sensor reads off, which is on the back of the front hubs. My abs light went off the dash and has been off for a week so far with no further problems!

I just used an old tooth brush and brake fluid to clean the teeth on the hub.
I hope this helps?

Cheers

Thanks Eva, I appreciate it.
Mine started coming on after I had the (near new) front rotors skimmed to get rid of a shudder. I suspect either the sensor or the cogs are just loaded with crap. I'll give them a scrub next time I have time and see how it goes.
