Hi there,
My MK2 escort broke a rocker spring and in turn bent a valve, (the big one, i think it is the exhaust) i am Very much a novice mechanic so don't have any ideas on where to buy replacement parts. I assume it is best to replace all valves and springs instead of just the broken ones? Any advice would be appreciated. Byron |

While the head's off, I would get the valves checked and reseated. Any engine reconditioner will give it a good going over and replace any faulty or worn valves, valve seals, springs and valve seats including your bent one and they'll replace the spring at the same time. Worth doing.
If you just buy a new valve and install it, the odds are that it won't be seated properly, it needs to be re-seated and if you're a novice, it's best left to the pros. They'll probably also deck the head surface and you can fit a fresh head gasket... all good and probably better acceleration too. Of course, you can usually specify how much or how little you want to get done, depending on your budget. |
