Ive heard about the effect/benfit of water injection on turbo cars and was pondering whether it would benficial on the NA I6, thinking it might reduce inlet temp / slightly and increase compresion, but i have no idea how the ecu would react, is this a good idea or am I just touching myself in my special place

I would suggest the latter
Unless you cranked the compression right up (like 11-12:1) I cannot see a benefit in a NA car. You do it on a highly boosted car to reduce the combustion temperature and therefore decrease the risk of detonation, which can be fatal at high rpm. It is highly unlikely an NA motor would ever find itself under such extreme operating conditions, running on premium fuel and setting the right timing would be a far more effective excercise. But, I am curious to see what effect it would have on your power output. Go nuts, I wanna see. :P |

Water injection is good if your intake temperatures are dangerously high. Otherwise weigh up the advantage of cooler intake charge against to disadvantages of water displacing air/fuel and slower combustion.
Instead try injecting nitrous oxide. It will both decrease intake temperatures and increase power.
