Xr8 had a whine in the drive line somewhere I thought it was gearbox so took it to mech to get his opinion he drove it and felt positive it was the gearbox to, so I pulled the box out got it rebuilt. Put it back in over the course of a month or so due to work and guess what..................................it wasn't the gearbox :(

Alternator died on the way to work (hottest day of week of course)
Had car towed to autoelecs.
Got the call to say ready to go, except one of our other customers has reversed into your front guard.
Got her details and booked car in for panel work.
Panel worked done, but door lock not operating correctly.
Returned to panel shop, who were great about it and went about fixing it.
Other side of car damaged while in their workshop.
And again they were good about it and sorted me out but geez, I just needed a recon alternator. Quick and easy, my ****

Minor mechanical stuff...nothing catastrophic.

Most annoying one I remember was with the single rail four speed in the GT Cortina we once owned. Driving along, only able to get first and second all of a sudden. "Interesting" drive home.
Pulled box, checked it out, a split pin had come loose on a shaft and it was a simple replacement. Box back in. Sweet!

Week later, same again. Then a month later, same again. Got pulling out the box to a fine art, me and a mate could do it in no time.

Ended up engineering a fix with better quality (non-Ford-sourced) slightly longer split pin and proper fitment, peening it wider top and bottom so it couldn't slip out. Didn't happen again.

Blew the diff in a Landcruiser I had years ago and bought one from a specialist Landcruiser wrecker.
Had to do it off the floor at home and when it was all finished took it for a drive.
It was that loud I couldn't hear the diesel engine over it or the road noise from the tyres.

Took it back and had to do it all over again

Couple of mates drove a GQ Patrol to bathurst for the 1000 weekend. Rear diff broke while driving thru the gates.

They have to swap the front diff to the back lol!

The morning I started my car and my rattle in the engine bay turned into a knock, knock knock.
