Default WQ Fiesta Automatic Transmission Issue

My 2007 WQ Fiesta automatic has done about 70k. I'm now getting (intermittently) a Transmission Warning Light flashing and the car going into limp mode. It can happen within a minute of starting, or the first red light, or even after a while driving.

If I turn off, restart, the car will run normally for a day, a week, ?

But if I keep the aircon on, it doesn't happen.

The auto transmission fluid is at max when just stopped, and at but not below min when running hot. Do I need to top this up? Is the only way via the transmission dipstick?

Car has been to my local Ford dealer, but they said it was just a calibration issue. Their "repair" hasn't changed things.

Thanks for reading. Chris.

I've had the car 3 years, so the battery is older. I can't see a date code on it, probably down low hidden by the plastic guards. It does have genuine Ford decal - could be original!

Get the battery checked out any Autobarn or Battery World will be happy to test it for you. Weird stuff happens to these car, any modern car really on an aging battery. If you have an original battery on a WQ you are pretty much due, I got 7 years out of mine. As for batteries i recommend LION brand, got one in the Fiesta (btw the Fiesta battery is not a common size) much better than the now pretty average Century, Exide, NRMA batteries made in Indonesia and China, Lion made in Korea.

Dud battery is what caused my dash to flash 'transmission failure'.

Got a new one installed and all good.

Don't forget your radio code if you have one.

No record of the radio code. :( But I'll give RAC a call, test and swap battery.

Thanks.

I didn't have it either.

Called a professional mob to come out and swap my battery assuming they had the code saver thing you plug into the ciggy lighter.

Nope, don't carry one, sorry.

Ok then, change the battery with the car running...

Nope, won't do that either in case of a spike.

I eventually found it after a lot of looking around.

If you don't have the code and don't have a good relationship with the service dept (they generally charge $20-$30 to give out the code) perhaps call the mob thats coming out to confirm they use the code saver or buy one before they come out.
