Hi all. So me and my partner have moved into a house where we basically share it. The Internet they have if pretty much dial up. Can't even watch YouTube. Is there anyway we can organize our own adsl connection but with no contract? They are happy to let us do it but I don't want to be on a contract for years.
Open to suggestions guys Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk |

About a year ago (after renting a new place) I was looking into this. Contracts under 24 months can be hard to find if you was decent value for ADSL wired to your house. If you can stomach the idea of a 12-month contract, I'm with TPG, who give decent value (Telstra wanted nearly as much money for one tenth the data). Otherwise, I'd go along with DASH GT's suggestion of wireless, because even though it can be expensive and a bit slow, you can take it with you if/when you move, of even just on holiday. Prepaid will be more expensive than a contract for the data, but at least you can stop any time.

You'll pay for the modem with no contract. And why don't you want one if I may ask? You can take the service with you if you move...

Stop press!
Saw this advertised last night on TV. 70g a month? $50 per month and $1 for the modem. Could be a branch of Telstra as they specify you must have a Telstra line. The name skips my mind..

Cheers for the suggestions guys. I realize I could take the service with me if I move. We download a lot of stuff so I would look at at least 100gb for us. I was thinking of optus month to month..

Yeah everyones going to charge out the *** for NBN absolute rip off merchants, I hate TPG with a passion but unfortunately their the cheapest by far. On the scale i'd rate TPG and telstra as having the worst customer service, I'm on a home phone bundle $50 per month unlimited downloads and uploads no line rental nothing. Better than their naked adsl and we don't even have a home phone it just ends up cheaper to put it under a home phone bundle than naked which I don't know if they even do anymore?

There is a reason why TPG is cheap, overcrowded, horrible service, dropped packets, latency issues etc.

Can you explain why Telstra is so expensive? I still get the same issues when I was with them haha, honestly I found iinet the best provider and not to sound racist but you talk to Australians when you call support, or at least you did I changed from them 2 years ago..

its not exactly what your asking for .....but we found a good deal...stuck with the same company till the contract ran out....then weve stayed with them without a contract....this has allowed us to screw the price down 3 times from competitors deals over the phone
we also had our full download stolen overnight twice so we have their protection free now aswell. we also have complained about the claimed speed many times over the years(I use my conection for online gaming) and as soon as a guy was sent out on site, he removed all the speed blocks of our line at the server end....so we now have maximum speed 24/7. but still only up too 100gig a month. I understand this all didn't happen overnight.....so get started |

i got dodo unlimited adsl2+ with no contract 2 months ago.
for no-contract it costs me 64.80 with phone line rental. (you need a phone account with someone, or dodo in order for it to be setup) i cost me $99 one off connection fee, and the modem they were going to sell me was $80, Do youself a favor and don't buy the provider's wireless modem , majority are cheap and nasty branded models and have poor signal strength etc. I went down to officeworks bought a dlink adsl2+ modem on special for $37. there is no disconnection fee, no earlier termination fee, no hidden costs. the internet is fast, i play xbox live and hour long youtube videos. its never dropped out. the customer service is quite good. there internet site with account and usage etc is straight forward. 9/10 for me. as opposed to optus and telstra i've had in the past. they are an absolute ripoff. and the fee's are disgusting. plus the customer service is full of people who have borderline english. This.
No contract, nakedDSL (no telephone) and the option to change your usage limit (Price varies) You do however have to front up connection costs, IIRC around $240. From then on its simply making sure you have the funds on your bank account for them to debit you every month. Cancel whenever you want! |

Been using exetel for around 5 years, decent speed and never had a problem -
http://www.exetel.com.au/broadband/adsl ADSL2 essentially has a limit of 5 k's from the exchange measured along the cable path and the speed drops the further you are from the exchange. To get around this, Telstra has what could be considered mini exchanges called RIM's with DSLAMS inside. I'm about 8 k's from the exchange but luckily, there is a RIM near me and Exetel resell Telstra so I'm able to get ADSL2+ with decent speed. I don't believe any other ISP has RIM's, they just leas era ch space in Telstra exchanges for their DSLAMS. |

I like the sound of the iinet one without a phone line. But it's saying not available in my area.
The place where I am living. The Internet has been shaped because they need to contact telstra and have only used 2gb out of 100gb They don't want to speak to telstra since they barely speak English. Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk |

Cool I'll check it out thanks mate. 40gb would probably just be enough for me on the low side.

Been with iinet 7yrs and before that westnet (now owned by iinet) I pay 89pm, get ADSL speeds, line rental and 400gb of data. If I lived in Perth t would be cheaper. But my adsl2 is using telstra infastructure so I have to pay more. However my max is sposed to be 20mbs, but the nice telstra man went to the exchange and opened up the port to full adsl2.

Also max potential speed adsl2 can get is only 24mbs. That is how horrible and old Telstra infrastructure is. |

Some ISP's lease ports/backhaul traffic from the main providers. If you're within the reach of an Optus equipped Exchange, the ISP will hook you up to them but if you can only get Telstra, you will be linked to them and have to pay more as Telstra charge the ISP more than Optus. For instance, i'm with Exetel and am slugged $54/month for ADSL2+ and 200gb peak/unlimited offpeak for a Telstra port (that's all I can get). Exetel also resell on the iiNet network - $39.99/month with 500gb. *Home user---ADSl(private)---->DSLAM-----BACKHAUL(shared)---->Internet Last edited by Kieron; 26-06-2014 at 05:40 PM. |
