Ford are very conservative with their power numbers. Power they make at the wheels indicates they all pretty much make a fair bit more power than they are quoting.

The big sheet fight and the class law suits they copped a decade or so ago with the Mustang Cobra have made them very gun shy on what they quote, because the Cobra made less than advertised and owners were far from pleased. Ford even recalled them and fitted new intake manifolds and exhausts, which had casting flash and exhausts which were not to the correct specs that the suppliers were supposed to provide. So now they always under quote, so something like that doesn't happen again.

The engine in the 2015 Mustang (and every one since the 2011 MY) will be more than enough to see off your SRT so how much more of a belter do you want

Nobody is saying that, just don't unfairly slag off Ford when you change camps. There is nothing wrong with being a Chrysler fan now you own one (I happen to like them too and the Dodge Challenger) but your attitude (and your posts reflect it) towards Ford is a bit childish.

Trouble with the 99 Cobra was it had a quoted 320hp, but was getting easily beat by 305hp Camaros. But at the time the Camaros actually had 350hp.
So alot of Mustangers were ****ed-off they were getting smoked by 'lesser' powered Chevs.

All I'm saying is its a bit unusual for a manufacturer to come out and say we'll beat another manufacturers engine...seems the Hellcat has upset them.

Thing is if Ford up the ante you don't think we'll get a Hellcat Mk2 with a bigger supercharger and more boost ? End result is guess who wins...the consumer

Lets just wait and see what Ford do, look at the last GT500 blew them away and I don't see Ford America letting the title go. These OHC engines are far more efficient with blowers/turbos added so let's watch it unravel.

One of the NZFF guys had a Roush Mustang at a dyno shoot-out last year and it was an absolute beast. The off road exhaust sound was off the charts good and they look bloody good too.

At Barrett-Jackson, FOXSports.com caught up with Steven Ling, North American Car Marketing Manager, Ford Motor Co., to talk about the 2015 Mustang.


Q: What's got folks buzzing most about the 2015 Mustang?

A: What I'm really happy about is that the GT Performance Package will actually beat the Boss 302 on the track, which is pretty heady. That's exciting. We've really upped the ante at each level. The Performance Package on the GT has a brake package very similar to what we had last year on the Shelby GT500.


Q: How did you get the GT to outperform the Boss 302?

A: We made a lighter car, but we made investments in the car, be it in safety, in performance, to take the car to a new level. I think for people who are interested in the Mustang, I would take that scenario every day. We think our customers will, too.


Q: What's the reaction to the car been like at the show?

A: Just phenomenal. The discussion we've had is, do we need to move the stanchions so that more people can see it? Because everyone wants to crowd around it and take a look at the interior, and that sort of thing. In my 27 years, I've never had a car, that no matter where we take it, that's had such overwhelming and universal outright love for the car.


Q: American muscle cars are having a renaissance right now. What are the key selling points of the Mustang that differentiate it from the competition?

A: With these cars, it's the great combination of design and performance, and you've got to have both to win. And then you add in on top of that what Mustang is as a brand and the traditions you have and all the heritage and that sort of thing. I like heading into that gun battle very much with what we've got.


Q: What have you got coming down the road for the Mustang?

A: You know I can't talk about future product. What I can say is, we wouldn't be doing this -“ we wouldn't have invested in an all-new platform, all-new suspension, everything -“ if this was it.

15 Mustang does look good Magpie and will be a very good bit of kit with those huge brakes, adjustable DSC settings and so on and for those that expect current technology in their car, (like me), there's the tech pack with adaptive cruise control e.t.c.e.t.c.

I'm in my 50's now so couldn't really GAF if Ford make and engine that's more powerful than the 707 h.p. hellcat and SRT respond with an even more outrageous MK2 Hellcat...ultimately the customer is the winner with this horsepower war no matter which brand they choose but all this, (at least in my mind), does beg the question of how much horsepower do you really need / want to pay for in a street car ? For my money and taste 500 h.p. is plenty...although having said that, that Roush intercooled Mustang making 575 h.p. is bloody outrageous
