Morning,
How many (any?) of you guys fitted 245/45/17 instead of the standard 235/45/17 to your standard rimmed XR8's? The diameter is increased by 9mm, which is 2/5ths of bugger all, and only 1mm off the standard 245/40/18 size fitted to Rebel and T3's. If so, what were the changes felt? The price of these are only a small amount above the 235 these days, and an extra 10mm width shouldn't do any harm to the handling, and definitely won't do any harm to looks. It should help overall grip slightly. The effect on gearing will also be negligible. Thoughts... BTW, the lip is already rolled on my front guards, so catching on the lip won't happen.

Yeah catching the lip is a bugger, a wider look is always better.
I've got 235/45R/17 on the XR8 (came with the car) so can't help. UK

Not sure 100% how it would apply to a 17 but I know a 245/45 18 on a BA XR8 rim fouled on the top wishbone and balljoint on my missus Ghia when we fitted one.
You couldn't even turn the wheel. |

I ran the 245 on my wife's xr8.Standard xr 17 wheels.
Issue was it collected the front guard lip over a heavy bump with lock on. Went back to 235 for this reason. My pursuit with the 18 run 245 and also have issues with lip if not careful. Cheers Dazza |

I personally couldn't notice any difference but I don't drive it much.
They looked better on the rim. Sorry missed the "all ready rolled" comment. |

I'm running 245/40/18 (which is you mentioned is similar to 245/45/17) all around on my XR8 ute and have no issues, it is slightly lowered and lips are not rolled.

I had a set of 245 on my factory 17's and they did rub slightly, on the front inner guards when compressed and turning, and on the read under extreme compression. I wasn't so concerned that I replaced them before they wore out though. Mike
