Default Where can I buy steel piping?

Hi guys, Im just wondering if it was possible to buy 3 inch piping and mandrel bends from anywhere other than an exhaust shop?

Is there anywhere in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne that is good to go to?

I want to have a crack at making my intercooler piping and turbo dump pipe and figure an exhaust shop would be charging me more than going directly to their source.

Thanks
Dan

Check out a place that do truck exhausts. They use 3" piping a lot more, should be able to get it cheaper there.

What wall thickness do you require? And how long of a length.? How many bends? And what is preffereed angle of these?
Heaps of piping at work, all sizes, just might be a bit to "heavy" for your use.

Australian Tubular Products in Warburton St Brunswick.
They sell all sizes & shapes of mandrill bends off the shelf, or will bend to your template.
And are great value! Ph No is 9380 2477

Thanks for all that guys.

The piping would only need to be thin.

LTDHO- Wont the exhaust shops get cranky about not getting a job if I just buy materials from them? I figure they would mark up the prices to suit their moods as well.

Thanks guys.

I went to a metal recycling joint - the type with all the cans and junk lying around. Found a heap of 3" mandrel bent stainless steel pipe lying around, paid $5 from memory.

Aero Manufacturing supply nearly all us truck places. They on sell to all the exhaust manufacturers

I've found they won't sell over the counter, as I've sent people in the same boat as you to them before, and they've ended up coming back to me.

Find a parts bloke from a truck joint thats into cars, and get him to swipe you a good deal. I always help out fellow revheads _2:

Otherwise, e-mail me and I'll supply you any mandrels, piping, CAC hose, etc that you want and you will NOT match the price ;)

truck bits i found were cheap for mandrel bends, all on shelf there and they are nice enough to let you go and try out stuff in your car in the carpark.
