Default A question for the GM spies in here.

I work with a freind that has a 4 year old monaro. He doats over that car and it is like new.... but..... at 24K on the dial it is now leaking oil from the rear engine seal and he is having trouble getting reverse, he seems to think that the syncro is playing up..... He has not checked the holden forums so he doesnt know if these are common problems, and I couldnt be bothered filtering through reems of holden dribble to get to the guts of things....

So GM dudes are these to be expected issues with 4 year old moons???

Cheers all.

Yep .. and anything under 4-years too.

For the trans problem try this thread: http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=50004

I spoke to someone at Mal Wood Automotive and they provided the following response.
The T56 has a constant mesh, full synchro reverse, with a fixed idler. There is no clip on the reverse idler. It is quite common for the reverse dogs to get damaged. We charge $440 to strip, clean, re-prep, re-shim and re-assemble a T56. Bearings are $275, and a new reverse gear will be about $206 if yours cannot be repaired. We do a complete job, we do not just pull the back off and do bandaid repairs.
For the leaking rear main .. well mine had it from new on my GEM exhange engine so Holden had to fix it under warranty. I think replacing the seal is pretty easy as it's a one-piece design, but they'll have to pull the trans, so maybe the both can be done at the same time?

I don't think the rear main is a typical fault, but the transmission one appears to be.

Rod.
