I have had fords for many years but notice
that E series engine mounts break quiet often on the Welded area (rubber to steel.) I replaced mine 2 months back & already the left side has pulled away again. The car is a manual - i often give it a bit of juice from take off, but i cant see mounts lasting such a short time. Does anyone know of stronger mounts or how to make them stronger.

if ya dont mind a bit of a dodge job, then what ya can do is put a big *** bolt through the mount to hold it in place just give it a couple of mm of free play then have it welded in place. this will make ya car rock back and forth durning revving tho, (scares 4 bangers tho).

yeah i bought non ford engine mounts once... they didn't even last a day! definately get engine mounts from ford. and also if you're getting axle tramp or anything that can cause you to break mounts. i found my problem was i had the rear of my wagon lowered with lowering blocks which pushes the diff up out of alignment and that was giving me problems... lowered it properly with lowered leafs and got ford engine mounts in and havn't had a problem since then (about 6months now)

(EA SPRINT) what is it about the genuine ford mounts that
is so good, I dont care about cost as it is a pain in the *** when u try to take off with your engine bouncing all over the place & missing gear changes. Welding sounds good as u see in posts, but i would rather just do new mount change. Thank u to all of the ford forums comments & ideas.

The genuine ford mounts just work better and last longer....And they shouldn't cost more than $30 each.

When I bingled by car, I had to replace 3 of the engine mounts, as the engine was shunted backwards in the impact (but somehow not damaged). One of the new mounts failed just about right away, and it stayed like that for a while! Under acceleration, the car sounded like an absolute dog... "groan groan clunk". We finally replaced it with a genuine one, and gee it made a difference.

what causes the T section to get bent out of place? constant fast-changing revs?

Well, it would appear that I have busted my engine mounts. Looks easy enough to replace the one nearest the exhaust, but the one nearest the intake looks a bit harder. For those who have done these before, is it doable replacing the mount from under the car, or does the intake manifold have to come off?
I will buy genuine mounts from ford tomorrow. Thanks guys.

droping the clutch while towing a tandem with a car on it back from heathcote seems to be a recipie for breaking repco engine mounts... I managed to break 2 engine mounts and im pretty sure the gear box mount all in one go.....

The Ford mounts are pretty decent and are reasonably priced, well for an employee anyway $50 for the pair. That's the EA-ED style mounts...
Although with my engine I've already gone through 2 sets in 12 months. Alex |

Well, I changed the drivers side mount on thursday, and changed the other today. Damn, I was really surprised to discover one very loose bolt somehow holding the mount on. The other two rattled off and god knows where they are, and the mount is completley rooted!!!!!!!!! Pulled the engine mount of in two parts. Ahh well. All is good now, and I can go to the Dyno Day tomorri, and cruising at shaggers tonite
