My mother still gets around in her nearly 27yo 626 and the only thing that has ever gone wrong was a fuel pump over 20 years ago.
Its a 2003 model, last of the 323s

But yeah Japanese cars, damn good stuff.

I've got it apart at the moment because she sprung a leak between the bearing support plate and block.

When it still works when it goes back together is another story though lol.
Thats pretty good, it doesnt surprise me though,
one of my mates has an old beat up 1500 mazda, (one of the ones with the front that looks the same shape as the back), he has it on gas, hes a trucky and he uses it as his tool box carrier or truck tyre carrier that he has hanging out the boot, he comes to say hello on occasions with said vehicle, ...... i say to him "i see your in the good car today" he says "yep" with a smile on his face.
the bloody old thing just keeps on going.

sorta like my old lexus, parts eventually do wear out, but it takes a long time, everything is built to last, when you switch the key off and pull it out the steering wheel motors up and back out of the way to make for easier exit and entry, its 20 + years old and still works perfectly,
i dont mind paying extra for parts on a vehicle that is built to last.

10 , 20, 30k services are about $400 - $600 at a dealer

40,80k services are about $800-1000.

but you can get the filters and oil cheap and its not much more than a normal car. get your local mechanic to do it or do it yourself

I doubt the 100k service on a Landcruiser is $200...
According to Toyota, only the first six (every 10k) are capped at that price.

Toyota landcruiser V8 service.
10 liters of cheep oil and a cheap oil filter.the Toyota dealer advised us to use a mid range priced oil if they use oil.
check around the vehicle-that's all you be getting for $200. the Toyota service book has inspect for just about everything-coolant is 160 000Km and brake fluid .

Wheel bearings Ive been doing every 3rd service or when you can see grease dust inside the disc. and takes a few hours with gaskets and seals have to be few hundred $. the patrol used to be at 40 000km but that's only when government/fleet trade in.

Toyota fuel filter has a pressure switch so it could be high km before it need replacing Ive come across sume that rused through the case before the filter need replacing cost about $20, air filter in dust will be every other service but ive seen these go for years before they need it on the road.

So you want to shell out $40+ grand on a common rail land cruiser and then skimp on servicing.
Same sort of logic applies to those who buy a gas guzzling 3 tonne V8 petrol Patrol and worry about service costs. Logic up to ****.

As for the Chrysler product, I had a new 300C this week (only cos the Caprice was a one hr wait at the Budget desk), 4500k on the clock. What over rated things these are, give me a VF anyday! All this time we've been reading of guys ****ing on about these things on the forum... Is the SRT V8 the only saving grace for them? The stereo and 6.7l/100km Melb-Syd with air con on is the only positive I can think of. Again it made me appreciate what we are about to loose with the large Aust rwd in the next couple of years.

Change dealers! I've not paid more than $650 (including parts) at worse for the dealer service on the Jeep GC.
