Default GT (?) Cortina for auction

http://www.pickles.com.au/damaged-sa...edan/502311312

No idea if this is the real thing or not but someone may find this useful.

I owned the 1970 model 440 sedan might dig out its repair manual
always worry about pickles when they say circa something
might take a while to read the codes on that Vin plate to confirm its GT tag

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle...ction_location

motor looks stock ..interior is factory
its been trashed and let rust inside in and out ... way too much
finding the good chrome bumper part wont be easy

would be interested in its final sale price

if done up might be worth a bit

ok my best guess

that is a Mark 2 GT by the plate
built broad meadows september 1969
4 speed close ratio
1500 or 1600 ..that looks like a dual carb fitted ....but means nothing
'GT' Sedan 4 door bucket seats

diamond white and onyx black if the paint chart codes are correct for 1969 on

http://www.cortina-mk1.com/identify.php

how boring
My repair manual
covers both GTs

shows very little difference in motors gearbox - all same diff ratios
in the mark 2 cortina and the GT 1500
floor stick shift is right for a GT - wouldnt be a column shift

if that one has a 1600 motor that would be different -1971 end production
GT 1600 had the dual carby and was 188 psi

Woulndt a '69 model have the 4 guages across the top of the dash, built into the crash pad and not below the crash pad ?

gt gages were much in the same position either higher or lower

Looked like this until late 68

Then went to the one we see here. So more than likely original dash

Would be listed in the salvage section because it has a bent right front strut, but they where prone to this, the rally drivers use to have the struts strengthened to cope with the racing.
Looks like good project to me, but I can't do anything about it unfortunately.

It looks to be part of a collection as there are plenty more old cars in that sale. Most of them look to be not driveable and knowing how Pickles operate it would be easier for them to put the whole lot in the one auction.Unless they are 100% sure it's a GT (and they will make absolutely no effort to determine whether it is) the car will just be sold as a c1969 Cortina. That way, they avoid any potential claims of misrepresentation.

Yes, it looks the real deal.
I had one which I sold for $5500 about 18months ago. Everything is the same except for the missing bits.
They had bumperettes with overriders and Driving/Fog lights std.at the front.
Its a 1600 crossflow motor with a twin barrel down draft webber carby same as Capri.
Looks like the bidding has gone up though.
