I know this type of car and its mazda engine

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11426230

please confirm
it is turning over but wont start
or engine will not rotate a crank revolution

some history please
is this a poorly serviced or high km motor

maybe
faulty oil warning light
oil pump failure=ceased engine

while you had the sump off did
you have time to check a main bearing cap or conrod bearing

good that it turns over and there is spark

so ecu is working
are all the fuses ok

I would look at fuel delivery next
maybe a fuel filter
check if fuel is getting to the injectors

Leads?
Is there a spark at the end of each lead?
Pretty easy to check. If no, and there's a distributor involved maybe there's an issue with the leads or a cracked distributor.
Only guessing.
