Auto transmission leak

Hey guys, Tonight I've noticed a drop or two of oil off my tranny mount and I'm pretty bummed because I had it in the other week to fix the leak and now it seems to be seeping again, had the extension housing repair kit installed (bush seal and gasket) they told me the leak was caused by the bush being flogged out and causing movement in the tail shaft which destroyed the seal, the fluid doesn't seem to red though and they told me I had a very minor rear main leak, is it possible the rear main leak is spraying back onto the extension housing seal making it look like its leaking?

it could be coming from the speedo sender on the upper side of the extension housing

Yes its possible, the oil is black right? How many kays on the motor & whens the last engine oil change been done? Also have a look at the join between the gearbox & the block, there should be a drip there too.

cheers for the replies, today ill jack it up and have a better look, the car has 217k but has had a very easy life, oil changes every 7000 in the log books and ive only just changed the oil 1000 ks ago, it was dripping from the bellhousing but that was from my oil pressure sender and has not dripped since I replaced it. its abit of a mind game because there doesn't seem to be oil on top or on the sides of the extension housing, only around the seal area and mount.

Also have a sqiz all around the sump area & see if its clean there. Check if there are any loose sump bolt's, if so, nip em up half a turn or so but not too tight or they may leak more.

ohk I will thoroughly check it all once I get it off the ground, and what ive been told is if its from the tranny no matter what condition the fluids in, it will still be redish and the fluid that's dripping doesn't seem to have any red in it.

Some BTR's if not had a good service life won't have much red, more brown

Gearbox oil (diff oil included), transmission fluid & engine oil ALL have very different & distinctive odours.

Why not stick the car on ramps, give it a thorough degrease & clean with a high pressure washer, then drive it for a day or 2 & see what's leaking.

yep that's exactly what I did today so ill be keeping an eye on it for the next few days

just wiped the seal where the tailshaft enters and it definitely seems to be weeping from there, the fluid has a pink tinge/red tinge to it, will get it booked back in for the third time :P The fluid on the bottom of the paper towel is mums atf fluid out of her getz lmao.

sometimes oil will leak up the front from somewhere and with the air currents under the car it will run towards the back of the car giving you the impression its A) when it could be B) or both , at the mileage your car has done it may be weeping from a couple of places,

i would probably expect the rear main to be weeping a bit, i just had the rear main on mine done at 230XXX k`s ,
i got the front tranny seal done, and speedo seal he saw was weeping and done that as well at the same time without asking,
i wasn't worried about the extension housing seal , but my local auto bloke went ahead and did it anyway ......... one very good bloke .... ........earned himself a free counter lunch for two .
if the auto has to come to do rear main, might as well do all the other stuff you can do while its convenient.

Yeah that could be the case because lately I've been doing a lot of highway driving to work, I'm looking at keeping the car for a couple of years till my open license so im quite fussy with keeping it a1, will have wait and see what the auto specialist says.
