508 sounds Ok to me. A lot depends on where you live, if car is garaged or not etc.

If its cheaper than a Woolies quote, they'll beat it by $100

It's a formula that even the best cryptographers can't crack - an enigma if you will.

I have almost worked it out....

(house number X year of car X age of driver X years of driving X gender) all divided by time you made quote to the power of the place you parked X your NCB X the discount you get when comparing quotes X the temp on the day (to the the power of 17) all divided by the square root of the weight of the car in KG.

I think that's pretty close!

We have 2 cars. The Mrs 15 grand Mirage, my 42 grand Outlander. Only difference is that the Mirage is exactly 12 months older than the Outlander and the Mirage is a whole heap cheaper.

The Outlander policy is less than the Mirage - same company to. Same drivers, same parking situation, same colour....

Would love to know the formula they use...

Yellow Festiva's formula is damn close. End result may also depend on which operating software your PC or tablet is running. On a serious note, your post code has the biggest bearing on the end price.
Now I am going back to my attempts to crack the fuel price formula which has been eluding us for years.

Seems rather expensive, for low value car and rating 1 driver, my Focus is insured for $16,000 with 5 or so mods listed for $888/year and I'm under 25.

I'm with JustCar Insurance though.

2014 FPV GT MKII --- $333 per year
2014 smart passion fortwo --- $267 per year

Both with Coles Insurance, fully comprehensive, windscreen, new for old under 2 years, $800 excess on the FPV, $600 excess on the smart. Repairer of choice. Both drivers older than 55, no traffic infringements in last 10 years. Both cars fully garaged at night. Live in a good suburb. Never made a claim on any motor vehicle policy.

I don't think any other insurer can beat that deal. I'm very pleased with it.

Cheers Mike

As others have said, most prices are dependant on your age, address, finance and where the car is kept at night.
One of mine is also with Coles.

2004 Mercedes CLK, agreed value $25,000
Over 50 yo owner
Country address.
Locked garage.
No Finance.

$682 a year. Including Windscreen and roadside assistance.

Cool Re: Coles car insurance

Hi all
I posted a similar thread on the Terri site
I have a 2004 Territory Ghia dual fuel and 19 inch mags
in unmarked condition and tinted windows
3 years ago I insured it with APIA for agreed value of $20000
with $400 excess and premiums of $350
and then last year they sent me a renewal
and changed the agreed value to $15000 and $400 premium
and $450 excess now I just got this years renewal letter
and the agreed value has gone down to $9500 and $500 excess
I also have 2 other cars insured with them and the house and contents
how can they change agreed value?
any one have any ideas
theres no way you would get a Terri Ghia like this for 9k
should I be looking around?
Ive been with them for 10 years and a rating 1
thanks John

Maybe they saw your avatar lol.

Seriously the answer is quite simple. Greed.
All insurance companies discount to get you in the door then bump up the prices each year in the hope that you couldn't be bothered shopping around. You have to move around these days to keep a competitive price. Or do all the ringing around at every renewal time to get better prices so you can get your insurance company to price match.

APIA is part of Suncorp but, just for giggles try one of their online quotes and see how it compares with your renewal.

When it's insurance time I always check a few companies online, just to make sure that mine isn't having a lend of me

Unfortunately now it is all part of a game.

We may have thought that the age of the internet would give us "choices"

Unfortunately that is no longer the case.

Check your online quotes and see who is the underwriter, you will quickly see that your "choices" have been reduced.

IE: Vero/IAG/Suncorp/APIA/CGU have multiple "sites" hell even compare the market has a disclaimer stating that you are getting screwed before you get a quote!

Pretty much the same deals within 20-100 bucks, and forget about the 30% loyalty bonus, do a comparison and see that you are NOT getting your discounts.

It is sad I know..........
