Smile DIY Car Servicing for 2008 XR5 2.5L Turbo

Hi all,

Due to space & time constraints, i've been getting my car serviced by Ford for few years now but would like to be able to get in and change the oil & filter and possibly the spark plugs myself in between normal servicing as a general maintenance routine depending on wear & tear etc.

it's something i used to do on my old Telstar TX5 AS Turbo which lasted me over 400,000K's with no real engine issues and so i'd like to continue the same drill...

MY QUESTION is, other than removal of a boat load of plastic trays & screws i understand to be under the engine so as to drain the oil, i can see no real issue other than the hardened plastic oil filter HEX screw/cover with 'Volvo' written on it in the front of the engine bay.

are there any other issues i need to be aware of, from anyone who's done it.

Also, has anyone replaced spark plugs themselves and how much plastic needs to be removed up top to get this job done.

any greatly appreciated

regards

Harry

Its all easy.
One plastic tray under the car, probably find that some of the plastic captive nuts will be stripped (I had some spares).

You will need 36mm socket (better if single hex, they are on ebay ) and some extensions and a universal joint to remove the oil filter.

To change plugs remove pipework from air cleaner to turbo, two plastic covers on top of engine, unclip connectors and remove coils. You will need a torx T30H bit for most of the screws.

Torque settings are as follows.
Oil filter housing 25 nm
Oil drain plug (new crush washer required) 35nm
Spark plugs 25 nm

Spark plugs pretty easy.

Take off air intake pipe , couple screws.
Take out a few screws on the top engine cover
Couple screws on coil pack and take out spart plug. Reverse process.

Thanks Guys,

it's pretty much what i expected, but just didn't want any surprises as i've heard the engine parts for this model are sourced from all over the countryside!

cheers

Harry
