Sorry to say it but if you have been driving for 14 years and not had a fatality you are hitting the VERY small percentage of drivers without one.
My stepfather just got his first the other week... after 30 years.. basically unheard of. He was pretty shook up about it too. Then again considering some drivers are into double figures 1 is not too bad I guess.
As for livestock and animals.... the worst he told me about was taking out a flock of emu's that ran into a tunnel infront of his train.... was a passenger train too! They actually had to stop the train before the next station and hose it off!!!! :

my girlfriends dad said while driving a freight train once out townsville way

a man was drunk and speeding with his wife in the car along side the tracks..
he overtook then drove straight over a level crossing without stopping..
the freight train obviously cant stop that quick and smashed into it..
killing the wife..
the man then proceeded to sue the company for what ever reason.. and they couldnt do a thing about it because the police never took a sample of his blood alcohol level..

so he got a nice fat pay out

If true, completely rediculous. I can't see how this could hold up in court, no matter whether the driver was under any infulence or not, unless the crossing didnt display the correct signage, which is probably more of an RTA thing then any railway company.

I can beat that!

My old man has been driving for just on 40 years (15 on track machines, 25 on Freight Trains) and hasn't had a single fatality. Unless you count Kangaroos which would be tens of thousands...

That would have to be close to a record! From what I remember something like 95% of all drivers kill someone in the first 20 years. To get to 30 is almost impossible. To get to 40 would be close to a record. Very few would have ever made it through a full career without killing someone unfortunatly.
