Mazda offers a decent sized 4 cylinder engine though (2.5L) in the SP25 variants which aren't that expensive.

Pretty sure the FJ Cruiser is built in the US along with the Kluger.

I may have misunderstood (I too am pretty sure it's US built) but if not it's primarily "built for the US market". The dead giveaway for this fact is the rear door on the FJ which opens from the right hand side towards the kerb here in Australia (it's hinged on the left) instead of being hinged on the right to swing away from the kerb like other vehicles built for our market with a big rear door.

You can't get more Aussie than the Australian designed and engineered PX Ford Ranger - sold in over 180 countries...read every article about how it SLAMS Toyota..the most recent review on caradvice.com.au summed it up perfectly. And then there will be the Ranger based Everest...Im sad to see the tezza go, but end of day, what is going to be available, with soooooo much Aussie input - wont be made here, but it was born here.

Oh I agree...now if anyone can solve the mystery as to why a car built in those low-wage countries costs so damn much here...especially in popular twin-cab/diesel/auto form...then people would most likely buy a lot more of them...

What disappoints me with the Ranger is there doesn't seem to be many places to put switches etc for aftermarket accessories, we've done aftermarket accessories on heaps now and you quickly start running out of good places to put switches.
Where as the others seem to have blank spaces around to put them all. Seems like they forgot about that issue. |

I think to make it more palatable they should probably price it like that then show the public the Ranger alongside the BT50...and point to the BT50 and say "Hey, the Ranger might cost a lot more even though it's basically the same vehicle as the BT50...but at least it doesn't look like that monstrosity, so isn't it worth it...?"

In case anyone hasn't worked out how the free market operates, the cost to make ranger in Thailand has nothing to do with how much it is sold for in Australia. Ford will charge for it whatever aussies are willing to pay. And while it remains an above average offer, it will get an above average price(when compared to triton).
