Default Thermo fan - TDCi TW Fiesta

My partner's Fiesta (2011 TW TDCi) has the thermo fan come on as soon as the car ignition is turned on, even if the car has been sitting overnight. Any clues where to start looking?

FWIW last time this happened I pulled the battery cable off, left it ten mins, and put it back on and it was all good until today. I'm guessing this is the car version of a reboot .

Mine, although mine is petrol the fan will come on straight away if the A/C is on. Cold or not.

Diesels run cooler though so you would think it would not be necessary straight away.

Ended up being the fan relay in the fuse-box under the bonnet.

It's a 70A SPST unit, the spring return for the actuator had come off and the contacts had welded themselves shut.

I did a temporary fix by pulling the relay apart and filing/sanding the contacts and putting the spring back but ended up replacing the relay.

About $21 from a Ford dealer.
