Focus prices dropped (between $850 and $2410 depending on model) when production switched to Thailand. Fiesta prices dropped by up to $1500.

Whether (you think) that's enough in the current marketplace is another question entirely.

Probably developed on a shoestring Falcon budget as Ford Aus always wonderfully manage to pull off. Sadly they could not build it on Australian soil. F150 most probably had the GDP of a small country spent on it, as they have the numbers in USA.

Comparing the quality & reliability of Ranger against our FG Falcon ute the ranger wins quite easy.
As for the F150, it has to be released here for further evaluation & comment.

People say "there is no market here" for these things, how do you know when you haven't offered it?

The only chance we had was some hodge podge F250/350 which was the USA 1999 model which ran from 2001-2006 with minor changes along the way, built in Brazil, it didn't even have a glove box.

Hard question to answer, I have been involved with previous model F Trucks & my Ranger has proved its worth to me, I would have to see a new F150 in the flesh & test drive before I could comment any further.

I have, early 20's female, pretty decent looking. It was a nice change for once.

New utes are actually pretty good, I used to say I would never own one because of the POS utes I had driven in the past, but the new ones are great.
I can't compare them to a F150 since I have never been in one, but would happily consider one if they came here for a reasonable price.

Well We have has many toyota a over the years as personal cars and work utes etc. for example dads old 80 series was sold with 560,000 on it. No major work ever, and all our work utes have pretty hard lives in the bush.

Another example of more modern utes is our 06 d4d hilux. 340,000kms and only had a new clutch and intercooler (cracked). Where as one of Rangers (2012 3.2 dual car) has been just a peice or crap. Bolts falling out of gear lever. New gearbox, 4x4 switch falling apart.

And to top it off our 2.2 flat tray 4x4 ranger's engine blew up (cracked piston), gearbox whined and diff whines and all were replaced within its first 35000kms. And has been nothing but a heapa constantly bringing up engine lights and going in limp mode ever since.

I know which brand I trust a lot more.

I have been keeping a ear close to the ground and the only one that we might get would be the ram 1500 in a few years.

but would love to be proved wrong - first manufacturer to bring a full sized pick up here would do very well.

They left out the word TONKA . Calling these things trucks, the marketing is working appealing to those wannabe truck drivers . Never heard anyone driving a LTD calling themselves captain of a ship .
A truck carries heavy loads is speed limited and requires an upgraded licence . Thinking about it a ranger towing to its limit would be severely speed limited as well I suppose .
Hiluxes are limited to 2300 kg which is more in line with the vehicles tare weight, towing something over 1000 kg HEAVIER than you is ummm a bit scary . especially the modern day block of flats sitting 3 foot off the ground that they call a caravan these days .

As for your licence upgrade well that is applicable if the truck size & weight is higher for normal licence holder, there are trucks you can drive if under 3 ton limit.

Yes and they are marketed as a SMALL truck, sooo in all honesty a minitruck is the appropriate term for the genre for those with mini dicks . Maybe Ford should market it like that, honesty in in advertising and all that .

Minitrucks are already that genre. Usually consist of Lowlux's and Lowdeo's with cut springs, fluro paint job and a tray that cannot carry anything.

I'm pretty sure Ford aren't endorsing the product. A viewer might also be mislead by this ad into thinking that Ford Falcons have inferior tyres fitted that don't allow proper braking.

Wasn't Peter Brock also in an ad in the 90s for Bridgestone where he and his mother were both in white VS Commodores, with logos visible?
