I admire his effort but there's a life lesson here, he needs to continue to try. No one is waiting for his call, his persistence will be rewarded in the end.

Early in the thread I was thinking RAAF and obviously the advice ended up at that.

According to a recent report on TV, many jobs are going to disappear in the next 20 years thanks to huge advances in robotics. I think the figure was millions but can't rightly remember. It's only going to get harder if this is proved correct...

Mind you I got to round 2 of worksafe inspector intake last year, but they didn't want trade qualified people as they wanted generalists, and I'm too aggressive apparently

Another thought - don't speak with the companies with a head office, speak with a local contractor who may appreciate the help with fit offs in houses or something similar. A small mob is likely to be interested, but a larger company has too much red tape.

I really wish your young bloke all the best in his endeavours My eldest son (now 25) did a School Based Traineeship in Computers and IT @ 16 whilst still studying in year 10. His School year adviser, himself and a local Group Training organisation worked together and managed to get him into the local Council in the IT dept. it was all drawn up and finalised with the assistance of a NSW Apprentice and Trainee rep. He had to work damn hard and was determined to succeed. He also had to make sacrifices, for instance, he had to work full time Mon - Fri during School Holidays as part of the terms so he could accrue enough hours to gain qualifications (which he did) he also picked up the Group Training award for School Based Trainee of the year in his first year plus a nice cash prize compliments of the NSW Govt. as an incentive. He continued with this training along with his school studies and was rewarded at the completion of the Traineeship and completing and obtaining his HSC, by being offered a a full time paying position by Council He has since moved on to a position within Defence (RAN)(Civilian Contractor) still involved in his chosen field of IT

I'm not sure if your son would be wanting to get into something like this but it does sound as though he's keen and if he's prepared to put in the effort now (and get paid whilst he does it) he could hopefully reap the rewards later on. Googled this for S.A. (your state I believe ? )

Bear in mind that any genuine business that would be prepared to take him on is also entitled to some Govt. funding so maybe that might give some of your local businesses a bit more incentive to give him a go !!
