Buying cars from intersate

Hi everyone just looking for a little advice.
I live in NSW and i'm looking to buy a car I like in WA what is the best way of doing this ?
I don't have time to drive the car all the way back here. I was intending to fly over inspect the car then if I buy it get it shipped here.
How would I go about doing this who do I leave the car with while it's waiting to get shipped ?

Seriously, look up car transport companies for a price - say Perth to Sydney. Check the feed back with other forum members who have used the company and decide if you want to trust them with your new / second hand car.

Your next decision is do you trust the seller. Will they be forth coming in all you need to know about the car. Decide whether you will fly across, check the car yourself, or pay the state body RACQ / RACV / AANT etc to do a check on the car. Remember, if you pay for it (the inspection) it's your inspection.

You've flown across, checked or had the vehicle checked and all is OK. Now is decision time. Choose one of your prior calls to transport companies, drop the vehicle at their depot and fly home and wait for the vehicle to arrive. Or, alternatively, drive it back your self.

There is one other alternative which I used a year or so back. I drove my BMW from Darwin to Brisbane for it to be sold but the guy there just jerked me around for over six months. I was very sick at the time and a fellow Forum member, who was in between jobs offered to drive me back to Darwin in it. i paid for accommodation and his Airfare back to Brisbane once we got back - just food for thought.

I had this same issue when I bought my GTP. I could get the same car in WA for a few grand less then the eastern states, But by the time I looked into getting the car over here it just wasn't worth it. I too was going to fly over look at the car & the dealer was going to ship it to Sydney for me.. By the time I added the cost of air fare's, shipping [at a dealer cost] & re rego. It just wasn't worth the trouble..
I dont know what car your looking at? But I was looking at a near new GTP so you sort of know the car will be ok, its just the logistics's that put me off. I ended up finding one in QLD, jumped a cheap flight up in the morning, was home by 10.30pm the same day. Saving quite a few hundred bucks on air fare's, & had the car home without a problem. Plus You have to hope the truck or train mob looks after it, Its no good if it gets here damaged, who do you complain too?? The dealer/seller, the transport Co?

If its Eastern states just fly and get it. You can inspect the car before picking it up and you wont have to deal with potential transport issues. There are specialist companies that transport the car for you with care but usually too expensive to make an interstate car more attractive than a local one (unless it is rare). Main game companies like Ceva and co have issues all the time. I deal with large amounts of clients that need things fixing up and nobody wants to take responsibility. Simple things like the cars being filthy to full scrapes and scratches. One F6 Ute I saw had the underside nearly torn out, front and rear bumpers badly damaged and bald tyres. Everything did get paid for eventually although not without the owner being out of pocket some what and then having to live with the car that he was not happy with and never will be. Costs from Eastern states would be approx $1000 and up to $2500 from WA. The GT I bought in Melbourne and drove home. Took 2 days, $80 airfare, and $100 motel half way + fuel and a great opportunity to bond with the car.

Exactly right..Thats what I did, but me & my son drove home to Newcastle the same day from Brizvagis.. Great road trip in my new car.. I was thinking of doing the same If I got one from WA, but what I saved on the car, would have been swallowed up in air fare, fuel & motels..

CEVA transported my XY GS wagon from Melbourne to Perth for $1,500. Their website quotes $875 Perth to Sydney. I would have no issue in recommending them.

A cross country road trip to bond with your new car (I really like that expression) sounds like a great idea, though.

Day 1, fly to Perth, collect car, drive to Norseman. Day 2 Norseman to Ceduna, Day 3 Ceduna to Broken Hill, Day 4 Broken Hill to Little Hartley.

By the time you'll either be in love or ready for a divorce!

I reckon from this site you would find a companion and accommodation.

I bought aF6 in Adelaide because of the rare colour and drove it home to Perth. I flew out Friday arvo got into Adelaide like 8.00pm went to a cheap hotel. Next morning guy picked me up in the car early like 5am drove to his place exchanged paperwork and headed home. Got to the border late arvo stayed in a donga had a $2 shower and a dirty big truckers meal and a goodnights sleep. Next morning Sunday took of early and drove all the way home to Perth near Wanneroo! Got home before sunset! Had the car over the pits the next arvo and all paperwork transferred. It really is like eloping with your new love of your life! Just you her and the open road! I loved every minute of it!

Nawcastle to Brisbaine 780Ks 8 hours. $150 fuel, all up
Newcastle to Perth.. 3950Ks 50 hours..plus 3 nights motel @ $120 at around $120 a night, $500 to $600+ in fuel..

What if you were to say purchase an unregistered vehicle at the auctions in Brisbane and drive back to Victoria, is it possible to just get the RTA permits from each state to do this?
Looking for a work ute soon and often look at Mahiems Auctions, the Queensland Government sends a lot of low Ks Tritons there.

When I drove the BM back to Darwin it was unregistered - as Steve said $100 for a week from Bne to Dwn and was recognised in both states. Just check whether you need a new one to travel through NSW / Vic.

scaremongering ,all freight companies like ceva and toll etc have insurance so any damage they are liable as prior to and on delivery you have paperwork to identify existing damage. cost perth to east aprox $1000- $1500. if you drive yourself and leave wa midday Friday you can be in melboune 5pm sunday night but you will do a big couple of days. fuel would be about same as trucking it over

Just to clarify an earlier comment, last time I inquired you needed a roadworthy certificate to get a permit to drive an unregistered vehicle in NSW.
