it is getting harder to meet emissions targets with diesel, and the ecoboost engines put out more power and similar torque over a similarly wide rev band.

Powershift is gone hopefully it can get some credibility back, that trans tarnished the reliable Focus name.
$32k for the Titanium is a cheaper RRP than when the current model was released, we paid $29/30k for a sport in 2012..

Diesels only made up 3% of sales, so can see why it was cut.
Ambiente made up 15%. |

There may not be much fat on the base model. Better to fill the ship with models that have some margin on them.

Ambiente may have also played a great get your foot in the door role. Advertise a cheap base, get people in the sell them a Trend or Titanium. In fact, with the way they have been flogging Trends for 20 grand I'm surprised they were still selling as many Ambientes.
Not saying the new Ford strategy is a bad one, but the Ambiente probably played a role in getting people in the door - more than it sales figures suggest. The danger is that the Ambiente could also have the opposite effect, people drive the crap 1.6 litre motor and then are put off even trying the rest of the range. |
