Building a scale Lego Technic XB coupe with working bits

Problem is now no sleep tonight from working on this or the rest of the weekend coming due to the real thing and other stuff on

Those following, it's been awhile due to being distracted by my real coupe (as we all knew would happen!). BUT I've spent the last 3 nights working on it!

For once I'm being smart(ish) and calling it quits for tonight, but watch this space tomorrow, lots of pictures and a surprise due!!!!

Haha, nah I'm on my full license so I can and do drive my coupe. Just still like making stuff out of Lego still, though usually complicated or crazy stuff. I've got motors, robotics, pneumatics, diffs, gearboxes and all that stuff so I can make some cool things, I like the challenge of building things Also I'm sure there is some fathers who could own up to making things with their sons Lego!

BIG UPDATE!!!

I have finished!!!!

Finished the doors.
Filled in the floor.
Made the roof.
Added an extra spring to each side because it was too soft, total of 3 big springs each side now.
Fixed up the rear leaf springs because they weren't working, I had the front shackles in backwards
Made the boot.
Filled in the holes in the sides of the body.

Engine bay and you can see the extra spring. Before the front wouldn't stay up and just collapsed. Now the ride height is fixed and the suspension works as it should.


The underside. Proof that it is fully functional. Front suspension and steering. V8 hooked to a 4 speed gearbox to a live rear axle with a diff, leaf springs, shock absorbers and linkage bars top and bottom (not sure on the proper name).

The steering wheel out the roof is functional, so is the actual steering wheel, mind you there is no power steering!








Thats it...DONE
Only thing I could still do is give the boot a floor, under the lid its all skeleton frame. But it would be very shallow if I did, I might just leave it to show off the rear axle when you open the boot.

Thanks! No idea on time, it took 2 years. Many hundreds of hours is my guess, and I don't want to think about how many of those hours were after midnight before big days the next day!

Unbelievable the detail you have put into it as well. Again it's just brilliant maybe you should work for lego and have all the bits and pieces at your will. I don't what to think what you could do with that lol. Great to see something different.

Absolutely incredible, well done on such creativity and originality, Lego is an awesome toy to be able to do anything with and you've taken it to the next level.

You should pitch that to Lego as an actual kit, hell someone's got a Land Rover Defender up there so why not an XB Falcon!!!

The problem is my coupe is made using old building techniques and old, discontinued parts. It would have to be entirely redesigned to fit in with the current kits, have a better finish to it with less gaps, use different parts to overcome my clumsy fixes in places where I haven't had "that bit" that I needed. Like the doors, I don't like them at all, may eventually replace them with thin flat plates so I can angle the outside properly.

Also my coupe falls way short of the calibre of the other models guys are making. That Landy is awesome as, I like them. The guy who made that Landy also made a Veyron, google/youtube Lego Veyron, it has a motor, 7 speed sequential box, with the shift on that controlled via radio control, steering via R/C, lots of other stuff, hell it even has working brakes!

While I'm in the middle of nowhere 4000km from my Lego, I've started mucking around with the Lego Digital Designer, basically a fairly simple 3D Lego building program. First model attempt was a smaller scale, non functioning Coupe, lets just say I should stick to the real stuff It looks pretty bad, especially because there was no windscreen that suited so it has no roof. I don't like it lol, hoping to design some better things though, next was a stealth fighter plane, then now working on a random crazy car/buggy.

I just bought the Lego Star Wars Imperial Shuttle...the big bugger with folding wings, and over 2000 parts. Going to wait until we've moved some stuff to our second house we just bought down at Gracemere before I put it together though.
Amazingly, it cost more than my first car did...it was $388...on special...

There's decent money to be made selling stuff to Lego apparently.

Yes, your version might be made of "discontinued" parts, but if a suggestion is good enough and they go ahead with a model, they happily make custom bits and pieces unique to that model, which can then be used on others later on.

Can't hurt to send the proposal to them...

Maybe, maybe not. I may have mentioned it earlier on, but years back dad and I used to make tractor pull tractors and a sled and compete against each other. We got in contact with guys who were in the real tractor pulling and they were keen to get a small scale lego comp running alongside them. We emailed lego, they replied threatening legal action if we started one because we were using their trademarks and so on. About 6 months later they released the tractor pull kit...

You do the maths there...

And I don't really mind having the only large scale, almost full function Coupe, makes it more unique.
