If you want to get to know these cars then go to the PROJECT CAR threads and scroll through them until you find the model you're interested in, then spend a few hours (days) reading through them. Project car threads are generally full of photos, great tech info and heartbreaking stories. After reading through a few dozen threads you will soon become familiar with the rust prone areas and how much work it can take knocking these cars into shape. There's plenty of great builds in there and I guarantee you'll learn a heap but more importantly it will arm you with some valuable info that you won't find in books or magazines. Learn, learn, LEARN!!! Be patient. It probably took you along time to save those 20 Gs so spend a bit more time doing some research! You won't regret it 😉 Cheers and good luck 😃 |

I saw this Gilbarco Blue GXL for sale in VIC on carsales back in '07 or '08, most likely before it was treated to a resto. Nice car, and prob worth the money.

The best thing about the XC was the Crossflow engine, but if you're chasing a V8 that doesn't matter.
Unless it is a genuine GXL with matching numbers, then there is not much special about XC sedans. If you're happy enough with a car that started as a brown 6 and is now a red V8, then you'll find some decent ones for around the $10k mark. Despite its inconsistencies, there's nothing terribly wrong with the first car you posted, but its not original, not in any way rare, and not worth what he's asking. As for being stuck on the 351, remember that a 302 is simply a de-stroked 351. Depending on what heads she's running, 351 cubes only needs a new crank and pistons. As has been said, you're better off buying a good body and putting some money into the engine.

First warning sign...it's on Gumtree, then it carries on from there as others have pointed out. Original is king, bitsa's are not worth the trouble.

i know its on gumtree...but any thoughts on this
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/10862...ontent=product Roadworthy condition. Many dollars spent $14000 on paint alone. New shocks, coils, spring saddles, tie rod ends, ball joints, extractors, straight through muffler. Heads resurfaced. Fmx auto transmission just serviced. 351ci 5.8 litre engine. No rust The engine is a 5.8 litre 351 cubic inch cleveland engine. Bottom end hasn't been touched but compression still good, Heads have been taken off and been re surfaced and new head gaskets put on. Has Edelbrock dual plane performer inlet manifold and 780cfm holley thats newish and recently replaced all gaskets. New radiator, new hoses, new fuel line from sender to engine. New leads, new rocker covers and air cleaner. Just recently got new extractors and straight through muffler installed. Transmission is orginal fmx auto which are reknowned for strength. Minimal rust all major rust wast cut out before paint, only some minor surface rust, paint was re done 4 years ago but it hasn't been driven much since then. Go to facebook and search Custom Classic's Inc will be more photos on there. Kind regards, Jack Hi, can you send me more details, motor, rust, transmission thanks mark |

I saw that first red one driving around a couple of months ago, and nearly snapped my neck turning around to see what the hell had gone wrong. Someone needs to tell him he's dreaming!

This would be worth a look, GXL with Factory wind back sunroof.
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/ather...rwc/1086998252 Only concern I have is no engine bay photos and does not even tell you what engine it has.
