Hi Guys,
I am stuck in QLD, on holidays, at present, due to failure??????? of Fuel Pump pressure in an AU3 Sedan. Car runs OK without the van attached, but "pig roots" (misses, restarts, runs then does same again after a short time) after about 230Km. Runs/Pulls well up until about the 230km. Ford garage tells me that the fuel pressure is down? Replace pump $715.00, Don't believe them as it took them 2 hours to find this, I would have thought this was the first place to check and they wern't confident this was the problem. Plugs, Leads etc have been replaced about 10k ago. Any Suggestions?????? Before I to buy a fuel pump, and IF i need a pump has anyone got any suggestions of a cheaper place than Ford Thanks Greg |

Could be blocked fuel filter (in-line one), could be blocked filter at the pump. Could be a bad batch of fuel. Not sure where to get a pump other than Ford - maybe Repco, or AutoPro, Bursons, etc?

Sounds like a mysterious problem I had, turned out to be the fuel filter.
$715 for a fuel pump is just silly.

that price for a fuel pump is blatant robbery. A walbro hiflow one cost me $280 fitted. I reckon you could get one for well under $300 easy.

I had to replace mine last year when it failed. Got a Goss brand pump - made in Melbourne, in a yellow carton, from Bursons. I think it was about $68.00. The labour was mine. Dealerships are about $140 p/h for labour. Had to remove the tray (AUII cab chassis) to get to it. Been working fine ever since. I think you have to remove a tin cover in the boot, on the sedans.
What I thought was strange was that they said to replace the fuel filter for the pump warranty, which I did anyway. But it is down-stream from the fuel pump. regards, Richard. |

Any place is cheaper than Ford. One of their dealers on the phone quoted $400 (parts only). I bought a generic pump assembly on Ebay for $80. However, I am stuck now trying to take the old pump out. The thread of the plastic cover is almost glued.
