would have to go with a 96 model BMW M3 or a Lexus(toyota) Soarer V8 although i know the 2.5 twin Turbo 6 is really the model to have.

Well after so many recommendations...I'm targetting the BMW M5..... 5sp 6cyl 235kw. Probably go with a 1990 model as that falls within my price range with some spare change.

Now to sell me ute.

Capper super charger should give the XR8 a new lease on life.

If I was shopping for myself with $30k... I'd get this...

http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsa...ch_distance=25

1990 Porsche 944 S2. 3.0 n/a 4cyl with about 165kW, good for mid 14s down the 1/4, excellent handling etc. And I like the way they look.

Though to fit your criteria more...

http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsa...ch_distance=25

A 928 S4 mightn't be too bad. That one's a '91 with 137,000 on it. Those had the 5.0 V8 with about 220kW. Which, in 1991, was pretty bloody good (HSV and Tickford didn't get there until 1997 VT GTS and 1999 AU TS50 respectively). 928 was considered the best "GT" car in the world in its time. They're nice cars. And reliability wise, a genuine, lower mileage, Australian delivered model, shouldn't be a problem. I'd steer clear of shady cheap private import models though.

Gee!, I'd be lookin' for that 928 in manual coz tha auto i drove 10yrs ago was a piece of crap and that had only 60K on the clock.
If my memory serves me right i think my 250 XD fairmont was nicer without all that cheap lookin' plastic crap.

Realistically: 1974 Dodge Monaco (always wanted one)

Idealistically: A DeLorean or an open wheeled car of some sort, eg Ariel Atom.
