Whilst I'm a fan of Raptor, I'd not be in market for a Ranger version. I like the fact that it's being developed given we are unlikely to ever get R&D out of factory F series truck

hells bells, theirs a company been around a decade or two. My Dad (now 95) left the army, got a job as office clerk with them and bought a Ford V8 Pilot.

With Ranger being sold in 180 countries I can't see why it even needs to be shared with a competitor. They should cut Mazda off and keep our good work for ourselves. Maybe that is what is happening.

I would think at some point, they need to share key items with F series. That might push Mazda away, or if Mazda moves closer to Toyota it might push Ford to do it anyway.

yeah, you'r right, it is a JV, but I don't know what would happen if one side decided to pull out. A few years back Mazda made the decision that trucks were not their 'thing' and hence Ford took the BT-50/Ranger design responsibility for most of the 2010 model. Subsequently Ford had no part in the BT-50 ICA just launched, so maybe they have realised how profitable the segment could be. Maybe things are changing again?

Interesting comments.

I remember reading something a few months ago the managing director of Mazda Australia expressing his disappointment with the BT-50 sales, especially in light of the massive increase the Ford stable mate has had with the Ranger over the last few years. Perhaps Mazda were expecting the public to flock to it in the same way people have to other products in their line-up. The managing director then went on to say they would be targeting fleets a bit more aggressively in the hope of increasing sales (This from a company that PROUDLY claims their sales do not revolve around heavy fleet volume).

As you said, perhaps Mazda are watching the how other companies are raking in the profit from flogging pick-ups.
