Hi all. Me and the Mrs landed in Townsville last night. We are gonna stick around here for the weekend and make our way down to mackay then up to cairns next week. I have seen people hire 4 wheelers and motorbikes on Fraser island, I there anyone that's done anything similar up around the daintree rainforest?
Thanks. Also, goddamn its hot! |

Its bitumen road all the way to Cape Trib, (the main tourist section) the dirt and 4wd starts after that, that section is called the Bloomfield track and goes to Cooktown.
You can go inland on the 4wd CREB track but doubt any 4wd rental cars would allow that as it is more serious off roading. Also storms are forecast and it will close after heavy rain. There are many tour companies that go there daily or overnight/3 day tours. Check rental car conditions, most allow normal car to Cape Trib but not all. The shop owners and ferry driver get a commission to dob you in if you are north of where you should be. There is a mob called Cape York Motorcycles or something that do escorted safaris up to Cape York for a week or so but not sure if they do smaller ones to Cooktown etc. Again its the wrong time of year, one storm and the dirt roads shut...two storms and the Bruce highway shuts... |
