A facelift for the American Ford Fusion sedan, known in the rest of the world as the Ford Mondeo, has been spotted by spy photographers this week on the streets of Detroit.
Although the Mondeo‘s Australian debut was significantly delayed, its Fusion-badged sibling has been on sale in the US since 2012, making it well-and-truly ready for a makeover. The 2016 Fusion was last spied testing earlier this year, draped in heavy camouflage at both ends. These latest shots see the layers peeled back, revealing new details at both ends. At the front, revised headlights and a re-shaped grille can be spied through the light disguise, although the finer details remain hidden from view. Of course, fans have little to wonder about, with a leaked corporate slide in August revealing what we can expect from the Mondeo’s new front-end look. More can be seen at the rear, where the Mondeo’s tail-lamps maintain their current shape but pick up refreshed LED internals. Black tape appears to be hiding a new trim garnish that extends into the tail lamps, although this may be nothing more than a sneaky disguise. It’s expected that the updated Ford Fusion sedan will go on sale throughout North America during 2016. It’s not yet clear when the facelift will be applied to Australia’s Mondeo, although a late 2016 or early 2017 debut could be on the cards.
