Is Ford going to do anything on the last day of production as a send off to the workers and maybe a celebration of the history of Ford manufacturing in Australia?
It'd be nice to see them invite Ford owners and past workers to Broadmeadows (or Geelong depending which closes up last) for a farewell event. Probably nothing will happen as Ford seem keen to "focus on the exciting future of Ford in Australia".

Yeah. I might even make a pilgrimage to Victoria and dodge the ridiculous number of speed cameras for that

I would say it will be pretty emotional for the people losing their jobs. Unless ford organise something we should stay away.

Could be right, but still it'd be good if Ford did something around that time.

Be good to be there and form a guard of honour and clap the workers as they left the factory. A lot of them have made great contributions to Ford and to us to bring us the Falcons we have had.

Best to leave the guys in peace. Last thing they want is extra attention during hard times. I'm sure the media will already be shoving cameras in their faces.

An event like the 75th anniversary celebration would be the way to go, pretty sure that wont happen, there was a team of passionate employees led by the great Geoff Polites back then. A very well run event.

Does anybody know what the redundancy packages for staff are?
• Redundancy payment as per the Vehicle Manufacturing, Repair, Services and Retail Award 2010 [MA000089]? • Subsidies paid for retraining in alternative workplaces/trades? • Super (partially) paid out and/or automatically rolled over to another agency? • Accrued holiday pay made available? • Unused sick day allowances paid? • Provision of written statements of service length, and position and/or trade qualifications? • Uncompleted apprenticeship training credited and transferred to another manufacturing industry? Some of these blokes have worked at Ford for 35 or more years; often it's the only workplace they've known. I'd hate to see anyone disadvantaged financially because of acknowledged stuff-ups by the middle management of a foreign-owned company. Last year, Ford Asia Pacific president Dave Schoch praised outgoing CEO Bob Graziano for his leadership [sic] and vision [sic]..... "Bob has been a terrific leader for Ford in so many roles around the world," he said. "With Bob at the helm, we have set the business on a new path that will result in a thriving product development centre and a world-class marketing and sales organisation serving the wants and needs in Australia for years to come". —I'm guessing the soon to be sacked 1200 employees wouldn't be so gushing in their praise. |
