Yeah I'm dubious on the SR5 beating the XLT, despite the Hiluxes having a fairly decent improvement between the old model & new.
For the higher spec models the SR5/SR5+ trail the XLT/Wildtrak on interior touches, gizmos/tech, exterior bling, power... But lower spec Workmate/SR vs XL/XLS are a different story (generally even playing field except power - Ford wins). Some of the weighting in the scoring is odd too. For pricing there's 1 point difference for $1k between SR5 & XLT, but only 1 point difference for $4k between SR5 & BT50 |

I think its more the scoring system that they use may be questionable.
May suit some types of vehicles, but not others... Reading the Hilux/Ranger judging, they acknowledge that the Ranger has got better performance and for towing etc, but they also consider the more modern interiors which appears to have brought the Hilux across the line first. The final points were close. With this type of vehicle being a workhorse, it is far more important to consider which vehicle performs particular tasks best, and points weighted more toward the performance aspect. |

I don't even know why there is a debate, winning an "Australia's Best Cars" award isn't a big deal, winning the Bacchus Marsh Best Vanilla Slice award has more standing.

Seems legit. Isn't Australia an ageing population anyway, with quite poor tastes in cars at that too...maybe one day Camry will make the top of the list, followed fiercely by a Hyundai mobility scooter in second place .
