Yes that is correct!

Actually it was my father in law who actually oversaw the construction and signing off for the Australian F-18s.

Calling the Wirraway a fighter is a big stretch, the original design intent was advanced trainer. It formed the basis for the Boomerang.
The Wirraway was derived from the AT6 Texan.

Truly one of the best war (or more accurately...anti-war) stories I've ever come across.

If you like Bf 109s then you will love this book as it tracks the careers of a German fighter Ace and a B-17 bomber crew throughout the war until they meet on this extraordinary day where the hardened German fighter Ace takes pity on a badly mauled and torn up B-17 with wounded and dead aboard and unable to defend itself and then escorts them safely out of Germany.

The story continues throughout the war until 40 years later both pilots have nagging unanswered questions and simultaneously track each other down and ultimately become best friends.

A warning though.....this book is a real tear jerker but a fantastic read!

Yes it is a fantastic read, glad you liked it!

Also, do yourself a favour and search either "Franz Stigler" or "A Higher Call" on YouTube, there's a couple of great vids on there.

Oh and another thing.....it looks like this book is being made into a movie which it should.

Cheers 👍👍👍

Beautiful picture...but it's about to stutter as it starves for fuel because it uses carbies instead of injection and they won't run upside down in a turn like that...
