Default brake light switch

how long does one expect a brake light switch to last on a au 2002 xr6 i had mine replaced about 2 years ago and now its failed again is it a comon fault. thanks all

It sorta depends. Late model stoplight switches tend to be lightweight plastic. My experience here in the states is that if the vehicle spends a lot of time with the brake lights on such as a boat load of stop and go traffic or long traffic light waits, the switch will last a much shorter amount of time. For vehicles that go more than stop, it will last longer. Also, check the stop light bulb sockets, if they look overheated it could mean higher resistance and heat in the circuit. Over here Fords seem to be rough on bulb sockets.

Yes, it is a common fault.

OEM seems to last a bit longer than SuperCheapAuto version.

Make sure you check the sites going into the plug.

I had mine where the terminal had broken the wire fractionally and caused an intermittent problem.

Fixed with 2 new flag terminals crimped on to the wires.
