Here is an interesting find. Im visiting my elderly parents at the moment & when going through some old photos & paper clippings Mum came across an old news paper article about a highway patrol car that had been crashed into. She said "check this out Jack, you might be interested" At first she said it was an old Monaro, but i soon realized it was an XC Coupe. We used to live in a small neighboring village, I was only a few months old when this article was written. It was published in the Quirindi Advocate on Wednesday July 12th 1978.
It would be intetesting to find out more about this car, maybe there are other members here that know what became of it after the crash. |

Hmmmmmmm
Brother in law has an ex-HSW HWP XC coupe that has been in a big bender at some point early in its life. When it was still a cop car I mean. I'll show this to him.

In the 1970's? Would have been sold off and scrapped. Someone might have bought it at the auctions, ripped out all the running gear and interior, and put them in a cheap old coupe they picked up among the hundreds in second hand yards all over the country.

I'm surprised they didn't total all of them, with the way I've seen our modern HWP drive...

Love the news articles from the 1970s. Good plain matter-of-fact description of events that happened. No whitewashing to make the police look good, no comments from the police commissioner about the gravity of the situation, no putting down of either the police or the fleeing party's actions. If this happened today, it would either not have been reported at all, or only would have been reported if the driver had crashed or was caught, and there would be no end of the ensuing media circus condemning the police, condemning the driver, interviews with police commissioners, Harold screwball or whatever irrelevant bs the media would try to spin political agenda. |
