It's the work of a company called Atieva, a US technology company that is developing electric powertrain and battery technology with the aim of producing its own car. Its test mule is a nondescript Mercedes Vito stuffed with two electric motors and a battery capable of storing 87kWh of energy and outputting over 670kW. The figures are no idle boast, with Edna now having dispatched 0-97km/h (0-60mph) in just 2.94sec and completing the quarter mile in 11.3sec at 188km/h. Waiting for battery technology to exceed petrol in terms of range and ease/speed of recharge. Then we can reanimate our old Falcons as electronic zombie sleepers forever

They've just added the Hybrid 20 series Vellfires to the import list...not the same performance as Edna, but 265kw with mid 5l/100 quoted.
Bloody vans...still wish I scratched that Bedford itch in my youth. |

If it's what I'm thinking of, the Toyota Vellfires are the Bentley of people movers. They sell here as brand new imports for about $150,000 dollars

G'day...Oh My God...If this is where vehicles are heading...it's tragic..I'd rather walk backwards everywhere before I'd get behind the wheel of overpriced trash like this..Anybody paying $150,000 for one of these needs to see a shrink REAL QUICK...Cheers Rod..

They stopped making the 20 series 2 years ago - they aren't $150k, clean low km examples can be landed and complied from around $40k, which doesn't seem too bad for 265kw with (advertised) mid 5l/100 with stupid amounts of luxury...assuming of course you have a need to carry 8.
Plus my bad - forgot to mention they aren't mandatory, so don't sweat the price. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea - they are a ******* van after all - but good for guys that have snuck more than 3 passed the keeper. Them, and Tongans. Maybe skate-heads too, as keep seeing them with VANS printed on their T's and caps so they must like that class of vehicle... Just thought they are decent specs for what it is, albeit not as impressive as Edna (which I apologise for steering us away from). |
