Default Black mini flare things

Hi there
Anyone know what the black flared thing on top of front wheels is for - they poke out about 5mm - seen them on s3 xr8 and ts50
They don't quite look like they should be there

To satisfy Australian Design Rules (ADR's) regarding wheel coverage.

Sportsmans have them too. I think they cut or deflect wheel arch spray with the larger diameter/width tyres.

Raptor nailed on the head, Ford had to meet the Australian standards. Also the Ed sprints had the same flare for their front guards, as the wheel width was a little wider than the XR's and had to meet the Australian standards.

Cheers
