Default Focus ST - Key Battery Low

Hey all,

Since Wednesday night I started getting the 'Key Battery Low, Replace Soon' message when starting up the car. This is all well and good but I only replaced the battery in my key fob about 2 months ago after I was receiving the message then! Has anyone else experienced short battery life from your key fobs?

What kind of battery is it? Was it purchased recently?

The battery could be a dud, which can happen. So, the first thing I would try is buy another battery from another retailer and see if the same thing happens again. If it does, then the issue could be with the circuitry in the key fob or something else.

The one I purchased was an Eveready CR2032. It was a 2 pack so I can try the other one and see how it goes. If the same outcome occurs, I'll just try another brand first. The original battery lasted close to 3 years. Strange that even a lower quality brand could only get 2 months!

I'll report back the findings.

Weird, but you dont know how long that battery was sitting on a shelf or in storage from supplier?

An update on this, I haven't changed over the key battery as yet, however I'm not getting the low battery warning at startup since the weekend!

This can also happen when the actual car battery is starting to die. Had it happen before.

Aaaand it's started happening again since yesterday. I hope it's not the car battery. The car's getting close to it's 60K service, I'll just mention it to the dealer and see if they find anything.

Just an update on this. Ford Dealer checked this out during the last service and just replaced the batteries in both of my keys with their 'OEM' brand. It's been nearly 2 weeks since I've had the car back and so far so good. Maybe the battery I bought was dodgy after all.
