I rang up two places one they both quoted me around $105 to $120 to get the head shaved and pressure tested. I also asked the about getting some porting done and one said around $300 $400, and the other said $500, $700 and more and said that if you get the head ported I would have to get the valves reseated new valves and valve guides does that sound right.

yeah - if they do a port and polish you usually have to do the valve seats as well

$300-$500 is probably the range for the actual porting.

I know a couple of places, but there both out western subs. Hoppers Express Cyl Heads and Footscray Engine Reconditioners. Both do very good work, and good price!

he's already sent it somewhere... not sure where he ended up sending it but it'll be done tomorrow.

Yeah I ended up taking it to quick drive engineering in dandenong, the head was ready to pick up today, but now it's getting a little bit of head... work. It was too hard to resist.

They did my head and did a very good job of it! ;)

Tell them Dave with the white ea (making 168.9rwkw) says hi! :

Depends on what you want them to do. The more they do, the more the head job costs ;) (Ooh that sounds even worse! :P)

A mildish port job is usually around 400ish from what i've seen... more if the head needs reconditioning at the same time.

I would only need porting an maybe bigger valve if I was ever to do it.

Probably just easier to get an EL head or something in my case.

My EA Turbo head (94AB) cost me $400 all up. That was new valves, seats, guides, major port work, shave and combustion chamber mods, as well as getting my pistons machined down to lower the compression. Helps when your boss is an engine reconditioner by trade! :
