A mate of mine has a Golf R which I've driven. Very nice car, although the noise it makes in cabin is not to my liking. Same motor as the S3. With the 7-speed DSG it goes like a rocket.

The RS3 is significantly quicker from what I've heard. I think Wheels or Motor got a 3.9 0-100km/h which is effing quick. I'll be keen to test launch control as I'm led to believe they can launch from almost 4,000rpm.

S3 has the 6 speed DSG, same as Golf R.
RS3 has the 7 speed.

I heard a few times that 2.5L 5 pot in the RS3 is half a Lambo 5.0L V10.

Not sure there is any truth to it, but it sure as hell sound the part at full throttle, some pretty insane exhaust crackle and pop too...

Certainly had me on car point looking at prices and doing the sums on my calculator.

Thanks for the clarification. For some reason I thought the Golf R was a 7-speed. I didn't take much notice when I drove it. Obviously I had my wires crossed.

My drive has fallen through unfortunately, but I'm hoping to make time again before the end of the week.
