I've put looms out of a 3 speed NA into my 5 speed EA S for all the Ghia electrics.
Turn the key, everything lights up, lights, wipers etc all work... it's just when you turn the car to start, the "Brake Fail" light comes on. It goes away once the key springs back. I'm thinking it has something to do with the Auto looms thinking the car is an auto and not in park or something? I'm not sure though, every post I read says a different thing... Car is running the Manual ECU and EA S BEM... Any ideas? |

Last time this happened to me, it was a kill switch that cut the ignition, the wires came out of it.
The auto loom should not matter if you have a manual as the input would not be needed on neutral safety I thought.

Neutral safety switch. what resistance do you have across the pins at the ECU?

Hmmm. It's meant to be 0V if it's in neutral right?
But in an Auto, Neutral has voltage? I'm confused now, I haven't checked the resistance over the pins. So maybe ground pin 38 for 0V? |

On an Auto pin 30 is netral safety on an EA non integrated ECU
On an EL ECU (integrated trans) pin 30 is trans position for a manual Neutral = 0V - 0.1V and 5V = in gear The AUTO is P = 3.8V - 4.2V and N = 2.8V - 3.2V

Hmmm. So ground Pin 30 to 0V should override it?

Interesting, I ran my car for ages with an Auto ECU.
Manual one is in there now though, so i'll ground this pin and tell you if it works or not... |

My EA Auto ecu is not integrated (seperate trans ECU) so that pin is just neutral safety (so maybe no signal = neutral) not sure.

Hmmm.
Pin 30 is Orange/Black or Yellow/Blue? This makes sence. Car is giving it 2.8 or whatever volts. Hmmm, dunno why it worked with the Auto ECU... |

Hmmm, it didn't blow up, but it didn't do much else, either. Same as before.

being auto looms shouldn't matter as they are from a 3 speed. Double check all your plugs on the looms and make sure you have a good earth.

First plug looks the SLS (self leveling suspension) plug
The other 2 plugs, round plug is the ambient temp sensor, and the blue plug is the climate control temp sensor.
