MD Diesel economy

I am looking at retiring my SZ Territory Titanium for either a Subaru Outback 2.5i premium or a Ford Mondeo Titanium. I was wondering how true the official fuel figures were and what people were getting around town in their Mondeo diesel.

I know it has a lot to do with how you drive but some info is better than none.

I travel daily from lower blue mountains to Rydalmere 45kms and have a average speed of 46km/h and the average is 6.6 L per 100. On a run from Sydney to Melbourne average 120km/h on the hume it did 5.5 l per 100.

cairns so essentially flat travels, 3 kids under 10.

My experiences:
throughout the year typically 6.8L to 7.2/100km always been around that cty/hwy use.

last summers worst was 8.5L/100km (A/C 100% of the time)

this summers worst is 7.5L/100km (better weather though)

last road trip saw 5.1L/100km Cairns to Airlie Beach and part return. Interestingly my fathers 2015 MD Mondeo Titanium ecoboost recorded 5.5L/100km on that trip. His did well, throughout the year it's more so 7.5-9L/100kms is being seen or typically low 8.2 which is on par with what ford have claimed @ 8.5L/100km. Love getting into his though.

Best distance travelled (sorry I can't remember recording the fuel used) was last year on holidays Cairns to Airlie Beach trip, but I reckon if I had known how to use the trip computer after buying the car, that trip from Brisbane to Cairns would have been up there as it's the longest I've done in one go. Remains a mystery if I could have made it from BNE to TNS in one go. Chickened out and put ~$30 in Mackay and partly wanted to get out to stretch the legs.

One aspect I didn't think of, having the ability to do long K's, means you're in the car more.

With about 85% highway use and 15% city I'm getting 5.9L/100km.

With mostly city this increases to 6.5L/100km.

These figures are calculated from distance travelled between refills. The trip computer indicates ~0.5L/100km lower.

Long return interstate run last year yielded over 1,200 on each full tank.
Recently city driving around metro Melbourne with aircon on getting 6.1 L/100klm.

Not too bad for a MC Zetec with over 230K on the clock. :-)

Thanks for the responses. Time to work through the quotes and get the best buy. I think the Ford wins
