What really concerned me was that me friend, the International QANTAS pilot, was unable to come up with an answer as to why it might or might not take off.

When pushed to decide concluded that it wouldn't. :

When I explained why it most definitely would (engineers being smarter than pilots) he started complaining that the question was ambiguous.

He later provided evidence of long threads where it was being discussed and argued at flight training and pilot forums.
