Evening all,
I was washing my car on the weekend and noticed tiny pin head sized sap all over the roof, bonnet and front and back windows. It’s a real @#$%! to remove. I have tried Turtle Wax bug and sap remover but it does not seem to be that effective. The only way I have been able to remove it is pick at it with my fingernail , I am worried that a chunk of paint will come off with it. Any suggestions for removing this would be greatly appreciated. I think i've had the same. Is it real sticky sap? Try a cut and polish

no its not sticky its rock hard , but it could of been there for a couple of weeks as I've been bit slack in the car washing department . Cut and polish may be the way to go. Thanks

Happened to a company car of mine, I used that orange flavoured, citric cleaner stuff. Came off straight away. It's pretty strong stuff, I didn't ever notice any affect on the paint though.

I have some of that citrus cleaner I thought about using it but thought it would be too strong. I will try a little bit and see how I go Thanks for your help.

Yeah citrus or highly acidic cleaners are the way to go, Im stubborn though few weeks back I parked under this tree and my bonnet looked like a mashed fruit bowl Ive never seen fruits like these before like bundles of nasty sap took me forever to get it off just used water and elbow grease..NEVER AGAIN!
EDIT: Just read the lables before doing anything and try on an inconspicuous (sp?) area first!

Safest thing to do is to wet the car and put paper towel or even bath towels on the top and keep wet for a while, this will soften it and should then wash off normally without having to resort to abrasives or chemical cleaners.
The problem with cutting and polishing (particularly using a buff) is that the sap is softer than the paint and therefore may abrade at a slower rate, IE. you may polish off the surrounding paint before you remove all the gum. Try the water trick first it cannot possible hurt anything (Do not leave the water and towels on in the sun as this can cause steam burns to the paint)

Just a couple of minutes at first and see if it becomes tacky or comes off, a little car wash directly on the rag that you are using to rub it could help too, if that has no success leave it for about 1/2 hour, if still no success try something else. , make sure you rince it well. Don't forget to polish the car after you have it all off, that will help getting sap or other stuff off later

For start stop using that cheap Turtle Wax stuff, that not helping you to keep your car looking it best. Try the like of Meguiar's. Buy using better car care product this will help you to take care of your car alot easyer. As Laminge said talk to the Doc as he will point you in the right direction. Trust me i leant the hard way that cheap car care product make keeping your car looking A1 alot of hard work with no where near the same results.

I had this problem a while back. Someone on these forums put me onto a product called Sap Sucker imported from the US by a company called Pacer in Auburn Sydney.
You can buy online here: http://www.pacer.com.au/shop/index.php Stuff really works just spray on wait till sap melts and hose off. (Sorry I mean bucket and sponge off) Damn these Sydney water restrictions!! Davo |

can always do what my missus did, grab a scourer from the kitchen and hit the car with that, think she thought it did such a good job she did the rest of the car with it too, luckily she learnt her lesson after doing this once!!

That orange power stuff, if it's the one i think. DONE USE IT ON PLASTIC! It will east away at it, eventually like acid it is that strong. I used to use it at one of my jobs to take paint off benchtops

i had my car under a mango tree for a while
would get thumbnail sized sap stains(yellow) every where.....couldn't never fully get off with a wash....try t cut....just enough to get rid of the stain....then wax ya car |

Try using good old every day Methylated Spirits. May meed to put in a rag & sit it on top for a whiles.
Rosin Cored solder uses pine sap as the 'cleaning flux', & it can be easily cleaned with metho. It will do the job. Tis prob a little milder then using citrus oil based cleaner(citrus oil - out of skins of citrus is quite acidic) |
