There was recently talk of this happening, I'm not sure how certain it is, but I hope it's as raw as the Focus RS. The notion of a performance SUV seems like an oxymoron, and you think they'd have to make it too family oriented to be a driver's car but if BMW, Audi, jaguar, Land Rover can do it, I don't see why sports halo models won't filter down to the mainstream at some point... |

They could easily build a sports version of the Escape. The Lincoln MKC gets the 2.3EB, and makes it pretty quick apparently.

A mate bought a Porsche Macan GTS a few weeks ago as the new family hauler.
He has taken me for a few brisk drives and that thing would embarass a lot of cars on the road with its handling. But for me the idea of a sporty SUV is a flawed concept to begin with. It's a compromise.

As a sales promotion it should do well if done right similar to the Focus RS.
It will have its compromises as do ALL SUVs like this, but it has potential. Look at the success of the SQ5, the Q3 RS and pretty much all Porsche SUVs.

So reading that the escape would fall under the crossover category, perhaps even My Territory would too.
despite their looks these cars drive just as well as their sedan or hatch variants so having a sport model is not such an odd concept. As Chevypower mentions the Lincoln MKC already has the 2.3EB it would be pretty easy to release an Escape. But personally, the escape is more of a shopping cart type of vehicle, so I don't really see a market. So I would rather the larger Edge sport 2.7EB came here (sorry I keep bringing this up..)

That's my take on the meaning of 'SUV' too - not that the car is sporty to drive, but that it can haul all your gear for your outdoor adventure. I've heard of the term 'Sports Activity Vehicle' (SAV) used instead of SUV, but I don't think it's all that common now.

My understanding too....the sport is not refering to the car as a sports car but as a vehicle that has the ability to take you to varied recreational (sport) outings.

My wife drives a 2012 Kuga. It has the Volvo 2.5 ltr 5 cylinder turbo motor, what a little ripper it is. All wheel drive and a sporty note too.

I'd have thought GT would have been a better description. Thats what it'll spend most of its time doing... touring. Can't see it hurtling through the forrest or winning any WRC titles like its previous RS brethren.

I'll take a stab in the dark and say that the 2018 TrackHawk will be 'sporty', it's got the Hellcat motor, well almost identical.

I see things like the Trackhawk and I feel that's where HSV should be competing, to launch a boosted four-cylinder SUV while that thing exists just seems peverse to me.. why even bother.
