I think it's a post office jobbie.. or perhaps the local cop shop, can't remember it was that long ago and it may have changed.

Here in NSW you get it from NRMA - so I would guess you get it from your state's equivalent.

They issue them over the counter while you wait and are valid for 12 months.

All the info you'll need can be found on NRMA's website, HERE

yes, you'll find it's much the same in most western countries. I lived in the US for 12 months ands didn't bother changing my licence. Also drove most Eurpoean countries on oz licence.

As suggested, if you really want an international licence, the NRMA/RACQ etc is the place to go.

Yup, for me here in SA I got my 12 month international license from the RAA.
Whatever the WA equivalent is should see you right.

Does that make your State licence redundant?

Do points and fines go to your international licence?

If you opt for an international licence it makes your state licence redundant overseas.

Traffic breaches are awarded against you.

I still owe for a moving violation in St Louis, Missouri in 1994. The cop asked for my passport as well as my Qld licence. I didn't bother with an international licence.

I've heard nothing more and have been back a couple of times since the breach and thought that I may have been quizzed at US immigration, but swanned in no probs.
I would imagine that there would be stern words if I got pulled up in Missouri again.....
