Got my gf's car back the other day.

Its been away since the accident but brought home. Lucky to escape, 2 broken legs, smashed knee, cut face, lost some back teeth, broke ribs, broke hip, and a ИИИИload of other stuff that i forget. She was in hospital for ages and in ICU for a week or so, Shes walking again now though after months in a wheel chair. Lucky the steering wheel is pretty padded or her face would have copped it more, it friggin broke.

i forgot to mention you can see on the door where they had to chop it off and pull her out of the back door since the front wouldnt open. And now shes gone and bought herself a bloody 76 mini, jeez i dunno.

she hit a rav 4 doing 80km, they were doing 80 too. im 20 and shes 19 so buying an f250 or something is a bit out of our price range right now :

There must be something about those bloody Barina's, we had one of the for 3 weeks and then wrote it off aswell.

We hit an old F100 ambulance head on at aprox 60ks and it was not a good turn out for the old Barina.

And yes she went and bought anougher small bloody car...

As for not being safe, she's still alive, but its disrubingly smashed up, though 160kp/h willl do that, she is definately very lucky to be alive.

Of course she is going to go back to a small car, they're easier to park.

Good to hear shes on the road to recovery, its a long hard road.

Little SB Barina, my sister had one too, untill she wrote it off.
Spun off in a high speed corner and through a farmers fence.
7-8 inch fence post snapped off and was impaled into the B Pillar.

Wow - thats lucky. It used to be that a head on at 80km/h is the point where accidents become unsurvivable for front seat passengers. If anything, I reckon its a testimony to the Barina. It did a good job keeping her alive. By the looks of the photos, the engine has been pushed back and down and the front has crumpled. Probably wouldn't hurt that the rav has a mass higher off the ground and with a similar safety rating.

5th gear did some interesting tests that I feel are worth throwing out there.

1. New cars are actually so hard that they are making old cars less safe. Ie, you could run into a 5 star safety rated car head on in a 90s model car, and it'd transfer most of the energy to the old car - leaving it safe, but tearing the ИИИИ out of the old car. They did this with a 4 star euro cap rated MPV and a 5 star one rated (ie, old model versus new model) at about 80km/h. The 4 star was very close, if not a fatality for the driver, the 5 star, they reckon would probably have walked away.

2. They tested the Smart car by running it into a concrete barrier at 70Mph! As claimed, its occupant safety shell remained intact and the driver would probably have walked away (unless the shock from the impact broke something internally I spose).

Anyway... I hope she soon recovers fully! I hope the mini treats her well!

Thats absolutely awful mate, so glad shes on the road to recovery- frankly, I'm very impresssed that shes even dared get into a car so soon. All the best to the both of you, I hope she makes a full recovery and never has to go through that again.

tell her to buy a toyota yaris, safest small car on the market atm 5 star safety and has more dam style than a barina... mini... she has a death wish :S they have NIL safety.

Lucky to hear she is ok. That is one messed up little car. The G Forces from the accident would be very severe, so glad to hear she is ok.
